Summary of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows


"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" is a sequel to "Sherlock Holmes" (2009). The movie is about the great crime detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his friend, Doctor Watson, who try to stop a criminal mastermind, Professor Moriarty, from doing his evil deeds. He murdered the owners of various companies to take over those companies. Moreover, he wants to create a war between the two nations. He tries to kill both Sherlock and Watson several times when they try to gather evidence of his wicked plans and stop him. However, Simza helps them escape because she needs them to find her brother. On occasion, in Switzerland, Sherlock finally finds her brother, then he outsmarts Moriarty and defeats him with his brilliant mind.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is the main character in the movie. He is a famous detective and a forensic scientist. Though he is self-centered and unsocial, he still dedicates himself to justice. He can speak multiple languages. He solves his cases with his logic by observing everything and everyone around him. In this movie, he finds himself in his career’s most important and challenging cases. He uses his mental skills and vision to find alternative ways to solve cases. While fighting, he uses his fighting intuition, which helps him to win. He is very confident about his thoughts and work.

Doctor Hamish Watson

Doctor Watson is also an important character in this movie. He is a very close friend and a great companion to Sherlock Holmes. He makes Sherlock behave more normally. He accompanies him while solving this case. Sometimes he gets mad at his silly work. He is very educated and well-mannered. They always plan together what to do next. When Sherlock needed help, he was always there. Though he hesitated to solve this case at first due to his marriage and honeymoon, after knowing Moriarty’s evil plan, he became earnest about preventing war between nations.

Madam Simza

Madam Simza is a fortune-teller gypsy. She comes to London looking for her brother. She was scared to trust Sherlock at first. After saving her life, she started to trust him. She had clues that helped Sherlock go further in solving the case. She even helped them reach the border and escape from the gun industry. She is seen worrying about her brother most of the time.

Professor Moriarty

Professor Moriarty is the villain in this movie. He is a mathematical genius, a renowned author, and a boxing champion. He has a discreet personality. He always wants more. That is why he hires a shooter and assassin to murder the owner of his competitive companies to take over these. He is cautious that he does not leave any evidence of these killings. Now he has all the supplies, materials, and weapons and wants to create a war between nations. He always thinks he is one step ahead of everyone, but his greed and overconfidence bring his demise.

Irene Adler

Irene Adler is the least important character. She tries to trick Holmes with the letter while parceling the bomb. She has feelings for Sherlock. Even after working for Moriarty, she does not want Sherlock to get harmed.

Rene

Rene is Madam Simza’s brother. He started working for Moriarty when he was in a movement. Then Moriarty uses him to do bad work. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle, and Sherlock needs him to solve the puzzle.

What I liked about Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows


  • The main thing I liked about the movie is that it is full of thrill, action, and mystery. It catches my interest and drives me to wonder what will happen next.

  • The affection between Sherlock and Irene is very touching. I loved the close friendship that exists between Sherlock and Watson.

  • Another thing I liked about Sherlock is how he observes everything perfectly. This characteristic helped him a lot in solving his case. I liked the way he determines people by their actions. He sees things in a whole different way.

  • I have learned to remain patient in any situation with him. I liked how Sherlock used his fighting skills in the movie; it felt realistic and accurate to me.

  • The director has done an excellent job of highlighting the culture, dress-up, and environment of the 1890s. I loved it as I am a massive admirer of the culture and environment of that timeline.

  • The actors and actresses have enhanced their characters very fabulously. I liked the movie from beginning to end.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a worth-watching movie. The storyline, acting, and thrill of the movie is marvelous. I learned that being observant allows you to learn more. Apart from that, the movie shows that to solve any problem, you must be careful and think from a different perspective. This movie is too good to hold the attention of the audience. Anyone can watch this movie with their family. So, I highly suggest others watch this movie.
