Pets - A Source of Tranquility and Ecstasy

The present era is the age of competition. We are all in a race, craving to win. Our daily lives have become a roller coaster ride that requires a pause to find calm and vivacity. After doing household chores all day long or having a long day at work or in educational institutions, we need someone to enliven our enervated souls. The correlation between humans and animals is not a new phenomenon. A pet enlightens our mood, abates our stress, and brings a sense of responsibility to us. Dr. Layla Esposito (2018) from NIH -News In Health's Human-Animal Interaction Research Program explains, 'There is no one answer about how a pet can help somebody with a specific condition.’

The unique amity built between a pet and its owner can be compared to a symbiotic relationship, which can work as a new motive for a torpid person. Our hectic, tied-up lives can often make us depressed and melancholy, whereas pets can work as medicine for our mental health issues. Bradshaw, an honorary research fellow at the University of Bristol in England, states, “Good interactions with pets do have quite a profound effect, causing changes in oxytocin and beta-endorphins” (The Washington Post). These vital hormones are crucial to robustness. Along with depression, many health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and solitariness have been cured with the help and mental support of a loyal friend or pet. Nowadays, pets do modeling and vlogging with their owners, which is also a great source of income and delectation. The contents regarding pets are cherished and adored by people of all ages.

Pets have become our family, augment our sense of responsibility, and make us work hard to have a better life. With pets, our lifestyle improves, and we become more active. Having a pet makes us exercise regularly, as pets love to go for walks, thus dragging us to a healthy lifestyle. It pulls us away from a pessimistic life and propels us toward a prosperous and healthy lifestyle. Recently, therapy animals have been introduced in the United States and have proven to be helpful scientifically.

Hal Herzog, a Western Carolina University psychologist who has long studied human-animal interactions, recalls a 2015 study on the health benefits for children of having a pet dog. The study shows that kids with pets have less anxiety. A child with pets develops better interactions and sharing capabilities. By caring for the pet, a realization of self-care and grooming arises in an individual. It leads us to mental satisfaction and gratification. Keeping a pet brings enthusiasm to a depressed person and makes him feel important. Even adoring and just stroking our pet can cure the depressed state of our mind. The sight of one's pet becomes most appealing and endearing to them, taking away all the weariness of the heart and filling it with contentment.

Traveling with our pets is an excellent source of euphoria and amusement for our souls. Nowadays, vlogs of travelers traveling to different destinations and completing their wish lists are on-trend. Traveling with our dear ones soothes our souls and motivates us on a different level. So a pet gingerly and gradually becomes a significant part of our lives.

As an ex-cat owner facing my beloved's tragic death, I believe there should be proper veterinary services in every country. In terms of veterinary services, Bangladesh is still lagging. However, we are burgeoning daily, so hopefully, we will have better veterinary facilities in the upcoming days. Our pets need to be checked up daily to have a hearty life. In conclusion, pets play an indispensable role in our lives. A bridge of amity, loyalty, and intimacy is built in the relationship with pets.
